Describe in 2 sentences who you are and what you do.
I’m Farzia, a composer. Life shines, each time I have an idea for a new piece, but also an idea for an extremely small change in an already existing piece, or in a sound, which may only last a second.
Is there something you particularly like about the Kollektiv?
The collective itself. Also the cool ideas, which arise here, e.g. this way of introducing the members instead of having a standard biography.
What would you do now if you hadn’t studied music?
Artist, or author, or philosopher, or even an engineer, as I have actually studied.
If you could choose: blind or deaf? And why?
Well … I enjoy the silence as a person, who can hear, but maybethe silence would have another meaning, if I were deaf.
Which groundbreaking invention would make your life just a bit better?
Deciding spontaneously and then leaving 4917 km (Cologne – Tehran, it means from home to home) behind me within an hour (ok, good, two hours would also be ok), eating with my parents.
Describe a typical day off.
Making myself comfortable at home, reading something, going for a walk, and in the evening watching a good movie.
What’s your favorite animal and why?
A squirrel jumping around with a walnut in the mouth, looking for a safe place, to hide its treasure.
If you’d write a book, what would it be about?
It would be much more abstract, than I could describe here in a few words.
What’s your favorite sound or noise?
Birdsong in the early morning at dawn.
Where would you go for composing music, if you could choose?
That is not up to me, but to the piece itself, or even some single moments of the piece, at which I am working at the moment.
